The 'Remote' Terrier

Have you ever been woken unexpectedly in the middle of the night?

You don’t know where you are or why you’ve woken and in your semi-concious state you have to know the answer to those questions.

One night quite recently we were fast asleep, dreaming of our fortunes, when one of those rude awakenings came our way.

I sat up, alarmed at the sound of shouting voices and gunshots, and in those first few seconds tried to establish what was going on. My first explanation was ‘a raid’ - but then who would want to raid our little abode.

My wife was woken first by the sudden disturbance and had therefore had that little more time to evaluate the situation and work out exactly what had happened. For this reason she had cause to be amused by my sudden dash to open the curtains and look out of the window.

Her amusement became apparent when she explained the situation to me.
Our two terriers generally sleep in the room with us and, on the evening in question, the young dog had decided to wake early and have a walk around the bed (as borders do).

She had walked up the bed between us and then around my wife's head to the bedside table. Here she raised a foot to step onto the table and placed it down onto the T.V. remote, turning on the television.

The movie showing at the time was an old gangster type film with lots of gunfire and shouting - enough to wake even the soundest sleeper.

The film wasn’t to the dogs liking since she had quickly curled up and gone to sleep, leaving us somewhat dazed - but nevertheless amused.
