I think their theory is "If
it's green then try it"
We have a piece of ground on which we grow
most of our own vegetables and fruit, and regular visits to the ground with
our two 'strange' borders reveal some strange eating preferences.
Walking up the side of the vegetable patch
they will snatch at the leaves of ANY brassicas - cabbage, sprouts, purple
sprouting etc., and any discarded stalks that may have been left on the ground.
They will eat 'weeds' such as dead nettle,
cleavers (goose grass), lungwort, couch grass ( a favourite of many dogs),
and everlasting sweet pea.
Then there is fruit........a real delicacy........Blackcurrant,
strawberry, raspberry, blackberry (even unripe green ones, complete with
the tiny thorns on the stem). We could never allow them a free run on the
ground for fear of losing all of our crops.
Should my dogs ever escape (heaven forbid)
I feel sure they would not go hungry. They would live 'off the land' stripping
neighbours gardens of anything edible.
One very useful tip for any dog owner.
A piece of raw carrot is a superb breath freshener. Our two will sit, anticipating,
whenever the vegetables are being prepared for an evening meal.
Let me know your dogs 'strange' diet
